Jim Piela is a New York City-based saxophonist, composer, and educator. He completed his graduate studies at NYU in 2015, after working with such greats as Dave Pietro, Billy Drewes, Alan Ferber, and Mark Turner. Since graduating Jim has been performing regularly with a myriad of different artists in different styles. He leads a jazz group under his own name, as well as the Planetary People, a funk/groove based ensemble. He is also a member of “Michael Sarian and the Chabones,” Rodrigo Bonnelli’s “Brasil Trio+1, “and the “Luke Markham Quartet.” His compositions and recordings have been featured at several international film competitions thru his work with “Boink!,” a NYC-based dance company.
