ORENDA 0049Portalis | Zack Teran

Bassist, composer, producer, and instructor Zachary Teran lives in the Reno/Tahoe area, where he graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in 2010 with a Bachelor’s of Music in Jazz and Improvisational Music. While in the Northern Nevada area he had the opportunity to study and play with the likes of Peter Epstein, David Ake, Hans Halt, Drew Gress, Ben Wendel, Esperanza Spalding, Ben Street, along with other notable jazz figures. After graduating, he moved to Boulder, Colorado where he quickly became a contributing force in the local jazz community. During his time in Colorado, Zack was fortunate enough to be able to play with Art Lande, whom he could eventually call a friend and mentor.

His career as a touring bassist has yet to slow down since 2006. Some of the more notable groups Teran has toured, recorded, and played with include: The Novelists, AZTeC, Chris Clark Quintet, Sol Jibe, Nico’s Mystery, Fiscus, and The Reno Jazz Syndicate. With these groups, Zachary Teran has had the opportunity to travel the world, extensively so in the United States.

Along with his career as a performer, Teran’s career as a composer has gained momentum as well. He wrote, performed, and produced the score for a feature length documentary, Inspire Hope, in 2016.

Zack Teran is a natural musician, with a beautiful sound and an empathetic approach. He’s an up and coming bassist and composer that Reno is lucky to call a local!"
