ORENDA RECORDS

"Orenda Records is a small Southern California label that punches above its weight... Orenda’s offerings are informed by rock, modern classical, and jazz, and combine these genres in a natural, organic fashion... Orenda’s musicians grew up in a post-Braxton era where musical styles are viewed on a continuum rather than as individual silos of expression."

Cosmic Yet Earthen, Daniel Corral's DIAMOND PULSES Stirs Our Collective Imagination

September 12, 2015

Daniel Corral's Diamond Pulses is a profound meditation, whether by intent or accident, on the connectivity of souls. It glistens in a sort of magical starlight, like aliens dancing under a cosmic disco ball, and, well, "pulses" with a dreamlike vitality that entrances the the imagination. Drawing on cultural influences as broad as Balinese rhythms, Terry Riley and Harry Partch, and even modern EDM, the sound reaches into outer space while kicking Earthen dust with dancing feet.

A Cross-Country Beats Music Collaboration Comes to Life in the Weston/Saxon Groove Assembly's Maiden Voyage, Acceleration

September 01, 2015

We live in a world more globally connected and interwoven than at any point in our known history...well, at least the accepted version. For all the cat videos, memes, and political vitriol spewed forth by the great "like machine" that is social media, that interconnectedness yields some truly wonderful moments, and in some cases, even beautiful collaborative art.

Los Angeles Newcomers, FELL RUNNER, Release A Powerful Debut Full Of Post-Punk And World Music Influences

August 18, 2015

It would be easy to overlook a new post-punk indie rock band from Los Angeles, but in the opening seconds their powerful self-titled debut, Fell Runner seizes their moment with infectious interlocking guitar riffs, seductive vocals, surging rhythm, rolling bass, and an noisy inter-continental vibe that could put you on almost any beach in the world! Seamlessly blending influences from Tune-Yards, Dirty Projectors, Pixies, and Wilco with a studied and extensive understanding of West African traditional music, their sound is a kind of folk-punk-world mash-up that can only be categorized as forward-thinking, global, and awesome.

Eron Rauch Inaugurates Orenda's Visual Art Series With a Gritty Sprawling Photo Book, The Apartment Homes Fake Book

July 29, 2015

The Apartment Homes Fake Book by Eron Rauch is a fractured account of love, loss, and photographic memory created during recovery years after the 2008 economic crash. Taking the form of a large-format photocopy manuscript, the disjointed and idiosyncratic mix of personal, found, and urban landscape images waver in a toner-stained haze of instability. Released in July 2015 by Orenda Records, this 92 page, staple-bound 11x17” book is the cumulation of an artistic dialog that with musician and composer Daniel Rosenboom that started with the 2014 album Fire Keeper.

WITH “PROMISE OF A TREE” DRUMMER/COMPOSER TREVOR ANDERIES OFFERS A NEW VISION OF AMERICAN MUSIC

June 30, 2015

"...This lush and colorful album offers a different perspective on the possibilities for creative music in the 21st century. While many artists seek the cutting edge with almost manic fervor, Trevor finds a grounded way to offer something new. Drawing on his own life experience through music, as well as his own family history, he’s created an album that reads almost like folk music rich with jazz and West African influences through a Zen Buddhist prism. The music is serene yet adventurous, meditative yet dynamic, and tenderly compelling."
